Videonystagmography (VNG) is the most widely used vestibular function test and can provide valuable information to identify both peripheral and central vestibular disorders. The VNG alone, however, rarely results in a firm diagnostic conclusion. It is best used further to support a suspected diagnosis with other inner ear-related tests. Experts agree that standardized vestibular-related tests provide insightful, objective information, but the quantitative measurements must be coupled with a comprehensive history and intake of symptoms.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this educational session, you will be able to:
-
define videonystagmography (VNG) as the most widely used vestibular function test
-
recognize standard vestibular tests and newer technologies
-
how a battery of vestibular-related tests can provide a compelling view of how well the peripheral and central vestibular-related pathways function
